THE VISIONARY JOURNEY OF BARRY KAWAKAMI AND WAVE OF HARMONY
Barry Kawakami's artistic journey traces back to a pivotal moment during the 1987 "Broadway Babes" production at the Baldwin High School Performing Arts Learning Center, guided by mentor Sue Ann Loudon. This transformative experience sparked a visionary passion within Barry, leading to the inception of Wave of Harmony Foundation.
More than a personal narrative, Barry's story embodies a commitment nurtured by mentors and peers who introduced him to the world of artistic expression. Inspired by the grandeur of Broadway, the elegance of opera, and the grace of ballet, Barry pledged to extend these life-changing opportunities to aspiring artists, opening doors to a world of endless possibilities.
Today, Wave of Harmony Foundation stands as a testament to Barry's unwavering dedication and the transformative potential of the arts. Through initiatives like the Maui Theatre Shop, Show and Camp Sponsorships, Plus One Ticket, Maui Theatre & Performing Arts Alliance, Scholarships, Community theatrical projects and empowerment programs, the foundation fulfills Barry's promise, igniting inspiration in Maui's youth. A cherished photograph from Barry's debut performance at age 9 serves as a poignant reminder of his visionary journey.
Driven by passion, Barry remains steadfast in his mission to enrich lives through the arts. The foundation empowers emerging artists with the tools to pursue their aspirations vigorously. Looking ahead, Barry envisions a future brimming with opportunities to inspire, educate, and uplift through the arts, fostering a community where everyone contributes to a harmonious wave that transcends the stage.
